Storage Solutions

Intermittency of supply is a hallmark of all sustainable energy systems, be it solar, wind, hydro, or geothermal options. As a result, energy storage has become a critical component of many systems. Point Energy Solutions offers several different types of energy storage solutions to meet your needs.

Battery Electric Storage

Traditional and most recognized form of energy storage, gaining popularity with both lowering costs and inclusion in Federal Incentive programs over the past 2 years (IRA). Good for integrating with solar arrays in this region to smooth supply profiles that are higher in non-sunny hours (late evening).

Thermal Energy Storage

Energy storage that stores potential energy as heat. Our thermal energy storage system makes use of waste heat in your operations (boilers, HVAC, industrial steam) to use at other times. Often these are integrated with energy generation equipment to reduce your electric demand from the grid. Most often used in commercial operations (server farms, data centers), industrial operations (excess steam system), and community systems (colleges, industrial parks). As such, it can even be used as base-load reduction. Unit size in roughly 6.5 MW thermal storage.

Compressed Air Storage

This option takes renewable energy produced in “off-hours” when grid sale options are limited and run a compressor to pump air into a bladder, which can be released to run a turbine at another time. Best used in conjunction with wind energy (overnight energy generation biased) and in places where it can be placed under 80 feet or more of water (offshore wind). Unit size roughly 5 MW storage.

Point Energy and our preferred partners can work with you to choose, design, and build a storage system that delivers the best economics for your unique energy demand situation.
